We’re so excited to be publishing Joey Evans’ book From Para to Dakar in November ’17. It is a story that will make you laugh, cry and most importantly, inspire you to chase your own dreams, no matter the odds.
Joey Evans always dreamed of riding the most grueling off-road race in the world, the 9000km Dakar Rally. A dream which was shattered when he broke his back in a motorbike accident and crushed his spinal cord in 2007, leaving him paralysed from just below his chest. The doctors gave him a 10% chance of ever walking again.
Many would have given up and focused on living life in a wheelchair, but not Joey Evans. Not only would he manage to get back on his feet and walk, he would also keep his Dakar dream alive.
A father of four daughters, Joey shares the many challenges he and his family faced on the long road to recovery. All the setbacks and the successes in the ten years it took to get to the Dakar start line. With his incredible determination and never-say-die attitude, he only had only one thing in sight … the finish line.
Through the sum of all his lessons learned, he defied insurmountable odds to finish the 2017 Dakar Rally, the only South African biker to do so.

Congratulations Tracy Todd on the publication of your amazing memoir Brave Lotus Flower Rides The Dragon.
“Dreams Do Come True – all through life we are encouraged to dream. When you’re suddenly paralysed from the neck down, you don’t expect to have any dreams left, other than maybe making a miraculous recovery. I dared to dream about writing a book, having it published and sold in bookstores, displayed, perhaps, on a shelf. I’ve been given a whole window. Wow! Thank you Exclusive Books Nelspruit.”
“Life is not measured by the number of years lived but by the number of memories created.”

Rest in peace Joost, you were a man on a mission to help others who have been diagnosed with MND and to raise awareness of the disease. It was our honour to be just a very small part in creating that awareness.
