PROFESSOR TINYIKO MALULEKE, author of Faces and Phases of Resilience, is the current Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Tshwane University of Technology. Trained as a theologian, Maluleke is a distinguished South African academic and scholar. Until January 2024, he was a B1 rated researcher by the National Research Foundation of South Africa and he has been a member of the Academy of Science for South Africa since 2013.

He has served three times as a member of the judges’ panel for the Sunday Times Alan Paton Award, and for two terms as a judge for the National Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences non-fiction book prize categories.

Professor Maluleke has had a profound influence on South African higher education through the pivotal roles he held: Executive Director for Research at the University of South Africa (Unisa), Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Internationalisation, Student Affairs and Advancement at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Pretoria. He is an Extraordinary Professor at Unisa and serves as Deputy Chairperson of the National Planning Commission of South Africa.

An active guest lecturer and visiting Professor over the years, Maluleke has taught at institutions worldwide including Hamburg University (Germany), University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Vienna (Austria), University of Lausanne (Switzerland), University of Helsinki (Finland), University of Johan Gutenberg (Mainz, Germany) and Calvin University (USA), amongst many others.

As well as an internationally respected and well published scholar, Maluleke is a respected columnist, op-ed writer and political analyst.
